The Casino group is deploying a race scanning function on a large scale via mobile application. Announced objective: to reduce checkout times in the Géant and Casino brands.
Animation of the in-store journey
Customers scan their products with their smartphone then pay in the mobile application and not at the checkout. But the initiative goes further since it makes it possible to interact with the customer through promotions during their journey through the store and incidentally to make them do the cashier's work. Digital is taking over the store.
Customers no longer take their loyalty cards, bank B2B Email List cards, or items out of their bags or carts. In addition, the mobile application allows you to view your virtual basket and its discounts in real time, and you pay in one click. Currently available in around fifteen points of sale, this “Scan Express” solution will be deployed in nearly 200 stores by June.
In practice, with “Scan Express”, the customer scans their products with their smartphone and puts them in their virtual basket, the amount of which they can consult directly with a display of the discounts they benefit from. Once his shopping is finished, he pays in the app. Arriving at the checkout dedicated to “Scan Express”, he presents the barcode displayed on his phone to the cashier who scans it. Then he leaves the store without having to take the items out of his basket.
The Casino Max mobile application offers several services. Available since October 2017, the application can be used in all Géant hypermarkets and Casino supermarkets. It has been downloaded nearly 700,000 times. It brings together the electronic loyalty card, personalized promotions, payments and other services. The mobile payment function is available in 106 Géant hypermarkets and 310 Casino supermarkets.
Payment offer in 4 installments
In terms of new services, this application will offer deferred payment and in 4 installments in the coming days in all Géant and Casino Supermarkets, via Banque Casino. This allows you to pay for your food shopping on credit. This scan via the mobile application follows the self-service checkouts and scanners offered in supermarkets.
Waiting at the checkout remains a constraint today for customers of physical stores. 8 out of 10 French people say they will give up on their purchases if the checkout queue is too long, a situation which occurs at least once a month for 15% of them according to a Harris Interactive study on “The French and the Click & Collect”, from December 2017. The average waiting time at a supermarket checkout in France is estimated at 10 minutes.
The Casino group manages 12,000 stores worldwide in France, Latin America and the Indian Ocean. It employs 220,000 people. Its net turnover was 38 billion euros in 2017.
Budgetbox: interact with the connected customer in store
The shopping and mobile payment scanning application deployed by the Casino group is developed by the French company Budgetbox under the name “Scan & Go”. It is also this company which is present on the scanners offered by E.Leclerc in its stores. In this case, the application offered by Budgetbox consists of animating the journey of the connected customer with ultra-targeted promotions linked to their preferences and recommendations calculated throughout the journey in the supermarket. The scanner does not allow payment. The latter is always done at the checkout. Budgetbox is also present at Carrefour, Système U, Intermarché and Metro.
